But whenever I draw little comics about her, part of me feels like she isn't just... gone. My next book Hand-Me-Down is A Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection! 🌟Thank you so much to @jrlibraryguild for this honor! And to the wonderful people at @01firstsecond for helping bring this book to life. Hand-Me-Down comes out July 2026, but is available to preorder now! Around the holidays I had way more questions than my grandmother could answer, but she got pretty good at redirecting me, so she didn't have to spoil the wonders of childhood with the harsh realities of... reality. And I can't help but wonder how I would've answered little me??? As a kid I just didn't understand costumed characters at all. They seemed like imposters to me and I would start analyzing all the reasons they weren't who they said they were. I wish I could've just gone with the flow like other kids seemed to be able to instead of asking a million questions. [If this comic seems familiar to you that's because it's a redraw of one I did in 2021!] Often times when I create a character it’s just about what “feels right” and letting myself go with the flow as they reveal themselves. I find it really relaxing, especially when I don’t have a clear vision when I start. Feel free to leave character suggestions in the comments! Sometimes ADHD makes it feel like your brain is just floating away. 🧠 This scene in my graphic novel, Absolutely Everything, was inspired by my own experience as a kid. I sometimes found it hard to focus on the things people were saying, even if I wanted to. It can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you don't know why. 💔 #comicstrips #comicart #neurodivergent #comicartist #comicbooks #art #illustrator #artist #graphicnovel It’s not fair that my brain refuses to allow me any relaxation time at all. I usually didn’t forget anything important, but it’s like a constant fear that I have and I’m going to disappoint someone or something bad will happen because of it. Anyone else like this? 🧠
