Trying to hop on that trend where people post text across a childhood photo with “this is who” but I made it too artsy. Did you know: I have a brand-new book, Hand-Me-Down, coming out this July that it is available to preorder now! [Preordering books in advance of publication helps authors and publishers out a lot!]. Hand-Me-Down is the true story of being raised by my grandmother, interweaving her stories of her own childhood within my own. A story of grief, hope and moving forward. Hand-Me-Down is also a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection! 🥇 Yes, I was there when Polly Pocket changed forms. What'd your Polly look like? I notice something new each year and I am grateful to be here. I realized recently that the author photo on my website is over 5 years old so I thought I’d update it with something a little artsy fartsy. 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🎨 ✏️ #artist #comics #doodle My dentist told me about how her 7-year-old son is very interested in the Titanic out of the blue and it got me thinking about my childhood interest (fear) of The Great Molasses Flood of 1919 in Boston. For some reason I assumed "great" meant there were others to varying degrees that could and would happen again. I was drawing a very sad comic (that I'm note sure I'll post) and suddenly I noticed my cat, Alfalfa, being veeeery interested in the corner of the room. Turns out it was just a clump of his own dander. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSs0ovnDVq0/ It's been over a year since my grandmother passed, and the holidays without her strike the hardest. But whenever I draw little comics about her, part of me feels like she isn't just... gone.
